It’s an election year, so you better get ready to a see and hear a lot of Steve Kornacki over the coming months. However, his interests go beyond the world of politics: a Massachusetts native, Kornacki also is a fan of the New England Patriots — and therefore has a keen eye on their upcoming season finale against the New York Jets.

Winning or losing that Week 18 matchup between the two division rivals, after all, very well might be deciding whether the Patriots select second or fifth overall in the upcoming NFL Draft. Appearing on The Season with Peter Schrager, Kornacki broke down where things are for New England and its closest rivals, the Washington Commanders and Arizona Cardinals.

With all three teams at 4-12, strength of schedule tiebreakers might come into play. And as Kornacki explains, those are a lot tighter than one would imagine over 16 games played by both teams and their opponents: at the moment there is only a one-game difference in Washington’s favor.

However, as Kornacki explains, even if the two teams end up with identical records nothing is set in stone yet.
