The ex-Patriots and ex-Jets players in the fold for the finale at Gillette Stadium.

Much has changed since the meeting in September. The connections between AFC East rivals have, too, from the practice squads to the reserve lists.

Two former New England Patriots reside in East Rutherford now. Three former New York Jets reside in Foxborough. And that’s if excluding the likes of Bill Belichick and Leon Washington on the coaching staffs.

But none currently reside on the active rosters.

Here’s a look into the familiarity ahead of the season finale at Gillette Stadium.

NEW YORK

Manny Jones, defensive tackle — The Jets added Jones to the practice squad in December. The 2022 undrafted free agent out of Colorado State spent his rookie season on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad and appeared in four games, totaling six tackles through 59 snaps on defense while also seeing work on special teams. After being claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Steelers last May, he cleared waivers following the league’s 53-man roster deadline in August. A workout followed in New England. The Patriots signed the 24-year-old defensive lineman to the scout team in late September. Jones would be released midway through October.

Tae Hayes, cornerback — Hayes joined New York’s practice squad in October and served as a standard elevation soon two weeks later, logging a pair of tackles across 13 snaps in the secondary and 10 snaps in the kicking game. The 26-year-old cornerback made stops with the Baltimore Ravens and Detroit Lions after being waived by the Patriots in June. He originally landed with New England during the final stretch of the 2022 season, quickly going from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. Two games and 32 defensive downs were played by Hayes before he was cut in February and re-signed in May. Entering the league as an undrafted free agent out of Appalachian State in 2019, Hayes has also been a member of the Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, Carolina Panthers and the 2022 USFL champion Birmingham Stallions.

NEW ENGLAND

T.J. Luther, wide receiver — The Patriots signed Luther to the practice squad as the calendar turned to September. Let go in October, he would be re-signed in November. The 23-year-old undrafted rookie from Wofford and Gardner-Webb had been a Jet from May into August. Prior to clearing waivers at the league’s roster deadline, he drew five targets in preseason action while handling 76 snaps between offense and special teams. As a graduate student for the Runnin’ Bulldogs last fall, Luther recorded 55 receptions for 1,035 yards and seven touchdowns through a dozen contests. The wide receiver took a pre-draft visit to New England.

Conor McDermott, offensive tackle — The Patriots placed McDermott back on injured reserve in late December, ending his season after he sustained a concussion. The 31-year-old bookend started five of his six appearances at left tackle for the organization in 2023. Reaching an injury settlement in September, he made his way back on the practice squad in October and became a three-time elevation before signing to the 53-man roster. A total of 228 offensive snaps were logged over that span by the UCLA product. Taken in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL draft at No. 211 overall, McDermott would be claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Bills at the end of his rookie preseason. He then would be claimed off waivers by the New York Jets in 2019, and caught a touchdown as an eligible tight end during a stay that included 36 games, plus six starts. McDermott ultimately reunited with his first AFC East team off the New York Jets’ practice squad in the midst of 2022.

Calvin Anderson, offensive tackle — The Patriots moved Anderson to injured reserve in November after he had been ruled out for consecutive matchups due to an illness. The 27-year-old spent the all of training camp on the non-football illness list before being activated at the 53-man roster deadline in August. He started and stayed in for 100 percent of the offensive snaps at right tackle through two weeks of the campaign before playing in three on special teams. Initially signed by New England as an undrafted free agent in 2019, Anderson would be claimed off waivers by the New York during his rookie spring. After a year on practice squad in East Rutherford, the blocker by way of Rice and Texas went on to appear in 41 games with the Denver Broncos, starting a dozen. A two-year contract with the Patriots followed as an unrestricted free agent last March.
