Plus, saying goodbye to Chris Sale and hello to Vaughn Grissom

Well, that was a hectic couple of days! The Red Sox signed a new starter, traded one of the best pitchers of the modern era, and acquired someone who they hope will lock down second base for years to come. Now that the Chris Sale, Lucas Giolito, and Vaughn Grissom moves are done, what’s next? Well, according to one source, the Red Sox still want to shed more payroll in order to pursue other free agents. Does that mean that high-priced closer Kenley Jansen will head out the door soon? (Chris Cotillo, MassLive)

In case you’re wondering when we’re going to see Chris Sale again, it looks like we won’t have to wait too long. The Sox visit Atlanta for two games in May, then the Atlanta Braves come to town for two more in June. (Adam London, NESN)

Meanwhile, we’re already getting introduced to Vaughn Grissom. He published an emotional goodbye to his Braves family on Twitter, ending it with an evident note of excitement about coming to the Red Sox. (Gio Rivera, NESN)

And the Sox are excited about him, too. Craig Breslow made it clear that they view Grissom as the everyday second baseman. (Colin McCarthy, Boston.com)

Given Sale’s upside (when healthy) and Grissom’s promise, it’s no surprise that the industry consensus is that the trade is a win-win. (Keith Law, The Athletic)
