Plus, Lucas Giolito speaks
Free agent signee Lucas Giolito was introduced to the Boston media yesterday, not in a fancy press conference but over Zoom (one of the many things that sucks about post-pandemic life, IMHO). His quote about him not receiving much interest is what’s making the most news, but for what it’s worth, he seems genuinely excited about joining the team and working with Andrew Bailey to get back on track. (Julian McWilliams, Boston Globe)
Is it possible that Giolito is soon reunited with an old teammate? Dylan Cease of the White Sox has long been rumored to be on the block and the belief is that the Red Sox are now looking at trading for another starter. Giolito considers Cease a good friend. (Christopher Smith, MassLive)
But Cease is hardly the only viable trade target. And one prominent national baseball writer (maybe the national baseball writer right now, thinks the Sox could end up swinging a deal for Jesus Luzardo of the Marlins. (Jeff Passan, ESPN.com)
And we’re hearing more whispers about a possible Kenley Jansen trade. But is it wise to inject uncertainty back into the bullpen? (Rob Bradford, WEEI)
We’re starting to hear from new second baseman Vaughn Grissom, too. Here he is discussing the homer he hit for the Atlanta Braves in his MLB debut at Fenway Park:
ᴍᴇᴍᴏʀʏ ʟᴀɴᴇ @GrissomVaughn now heads to Boston, the site of his memorable MLB debut.
Earlier this year, Grissom rewatched his first career homer at Fenway Park and broke down every detail from his approach to seeing EY and Wash to meeting @MoneyyyMikeee at home plate. pic.twitter.com/1UhNi1775G

Giolito and Vaughn aren’t the only guys to join the Sox in the last week. On Monday, Craig Breslow claimed reliever Max Castillo, formerly of the Royals, off waivers. (Chris Cotillo, MassLive)
And as we say hello to new Red Sox players, we must say goodbye to other ones. Mauricio Llovera was designated for assignment in order to make room on the roster for Giolito. Goodbye and thanks for the memories, Mo. (Mac Cerullo, Boston Herald)
